In the spirit of self care, I will show you how to delete someone from your memory. This is a mind hack. It's like deleting something from your hard drive. It's not really gone, but the files are no longer indexed; not easy to recover. This can really help you get over a childhood trauma, move forward after a bad experience, or remove an unpleasant person from your mind.
It's really simple. Find your key word. Mine is simply "Erase".
In a very short time, I have almost completely erased someone from my memory. There is very little remaining. Anytime a memory comes up, a phrase, a situation, a music/movie/TV reference, you name it comes up, I just say: "ERASE".
Saying "Erase" is like using a dog training clicker on myself. It stops me from going down a memory lane rabbit hole. It shocks me back to the present moment. Funny mentioning present moment, because I got this idea from Zen Buddhism's "Return to Breathing". In those moments where a memory surfaces, I figuratively return to breathing by saying "ERASE".
Results? In a very short time, I noticed that the frequency of pop up memories are less often. I noticed that this person no longer enters my dreams. It's actually working. I might revisit this post in a year to give an update. It is working for now.
